Gocycle G4i: Overview
The Gocycle G4i isn’t like any other e-bike you’ve seen; it’s like riding the future. With someone who used to work with McLaren having a hand in the design of this bike, every inch of it screams sleek and intelligent.
It’s like they took everything you know about e-bikes, tossed it in a blender with some sci-fi, and out popped the G4i – seriously, riding it feels like you’re piloting a spaceship, zipping around planet Earth with truckloads of swagger.
Sure, figuring out all its technical features might take a minute, and since everything’s such premium quality on this bike, we could see how replacing parts could prove to be a bit tricky. But in our opinion, that’s a small price to pay for cruising around on something so awesome.
The Gocycle G4i is an experience that makes you feel like you’re riding into the future every time you saddle up.

Assembling the Gocycle G4i
Assembling the Gocycle G4i is a breeze; it’s more about awakening your new two-wheeled buddy than piecing it together. Straight out of the box, this bike is practically raring to go – you just pop the seatpost in place, click on the right pedal (it clicks into place with satisfying ease), and BOOM – your G4i is ready to turn heads and hit the streets.
But here’s where the real assembly magic happens: syncing your smartphone with the Gocycle.
This isn’t your average setup; it’s an experience in high-tech biking. It’s not overly complicated, but if we’re all being honest, there is a bit of a learning curve with a few steps and safety checks. Remember that this is where you’ll start to bond with the G4i and get to know its countless features.
Pro tip: It’s a smart move to watch the how-to videos and get familiar with the different modes – trust us, it’s worth it.
Frame: The Backbone of Innovation
The Gocycle G4i’s frame is something else! It’s super light, thanks to its aluminum, carbon fiber, and magnesium mix. But just because it only weighs 37.7 lbs, don’t think it’s flimsy – this thing is extremely tough and handles like a dream.
It’s a step up from the standard G4 frame, which is less flashy and durable. A few other upgrades that the G4i includes are handlebar height adjustment, completely hidden wiring and cables, and MKS EZY Detachable Pedals.
One of the best parts is that the G4i folds up in a snap with its mid-frame latch. It’s so easy; you could fold this bike up using one hand. Plus, a handy rubber strap keeps it all together when you’re on the move.
Forget those bulky, heavy e-bikes that are a pain to lug around. The G4i is so light that you can take it almost anywhere – perfect for hopping on the train or stashing in your apartment.
Motor: The Secret Powerhouse
Tucked away in the front hub, the G4i’s motor is a masterpiece of discretion and efficiency. The proprietary Gocycle “G4drive” packs a punch with 500W of power in the US version (250W for the EU).
But here’s the coolest part: it’s way smaller than most front-hub motors on other e-bikes. This motor is so well-hidden that it blends with the bike’s hub. You get all the power without any bulky look – it’s all about stealthy, smooth, and quiet strength that’s there when you need it.
Display and Controller: The Brain of the Bike
The display and controller of the Gocycle G4i take high-tech to a whole new level. Your smartphone becomes the brain of the bike through the Gocycle app. Your phone turns into a control panel where you can check your speed, track your journey, switch up the headlight modes, and even choose your riding mode – from City to Eco, On-Demand, or Custom.
But here’s the kicker: if you don’t have your phone, you can’t control these features of the G4i. It’s integrated, making your phone an essential part of your biking experience. Cool, right? (Unless you misplace your phone when you take one of those midnight trips across town to the Jack In The Box).
The Gocycle G4i has several unique features compared to the standard G4 model:
- The G4i features a daytime running light, providing enhanced visibility and safety, something the standard G4 doesn’t have
- For the gear display, the G4i upgrades to an LED display versus the mechanical indicator found on the G4
- In terms of battery level, the G4i again uses an LED display, offering more sophisticated and detailed battery information than the G4 model
Battery: The Invisible Fuel Tank
The battery of the Gocycle G4i is so blended into the bike’s design that you’ll almost forget it’s there. A lithium-ion unit, 10.4Ah and 36V, packs about 375 Wh. This power pack is so discreet that it feels more like you’re just plugging the bike in rather than dealing with a bulky, separate battery.
Despite its discreet integration, this battery is likely a significant player in the bike’s weight, second only to the motor. And, with a charging time of about 3-4 hours, it’s always ready for your next adventure, offering an impressive 50-mile range.
Drivetrain: The Unseen Workhorse
The Gocycle G4i’s drivetrain is a hidden gem. Fully enclosed and shielded from dirt and grime, it stays clean and requires minimal maintenance.
The bike features three gears, which we found perfect for commuting – it prevents overpedaling and keeps things smooth. The gearing is controlled by a twist grip on the right, making adjustments as simple as can be. Plus, with different configurations, you can control the lights or even get a power boost from the left twist grip.
It’s a brilliant system. Sure, you’ll be doing some of the work, but with the bike’s intelligent assistance, every ride feels just right.
Brakes: Brute Stopping Power
The hydraulic disc brakes on the Gocycle G4i are a testament to the bike’s high-quality engineering. The Gocycle G4i’s brakes are its unsung heroes. These aren’t just any brakes; they’re Gocycle’s proprietary hydraulic disc brakes, designed for smooth and reliable stopping power, not a jarring halt that almost makes you take a bite out of the handlebar.
With these brakes, you’ll always feel secure and in control, whether cruising through busy city traffic or enjoying a leisurely ride on quiet country lanes. They’re the perfect blend of power and finesse.
Wheels and Tires: Where the Rubber Meets the Road
The wheels and tires on the Gocycle G4i are simply amazing. They’re not just for show – these 20″ x 2.25″ tires use a special silica mix that makes them super grippy. Whether sunny, rainy, or anything in between, these tires keep you stuck to the road like glue and are a big part of what makes riding the G4i feel so secure.
Suspension: The Comfort King
The G4i’s suspension, featuring a proprietary Gocycle rear shock with 25mm of travel, might seem modest, but it’s perfectly suited to the bike’s sleek design. It absorbs road bumps with grace and provides a riding experience that’s comfortable, controlled, and oh-so-smooth.
Gocycle G4i: Hill Climb Test
In our hill climb test with the Gocycle G4i, we learned that this bike is quite the climber, but it does ask for some muscle input.
We tested it with a 200 lb rider, and without a throttle-like boost from the left twist grip, most of the pedaling was left to the rider. This meant we managed the climb just once, reaching an average speed of 7mph.
It’s worth noting that for those who prefer a bit more help on the hills, switching to the “Type 2” configuration can make the G4i behave more like a Class 2 e-bike, offering more motor assistance to help get you to the top without needing to take a breather when you get up there.
Gocycle G4i: Braking Test
In our unconventional braking test with the Gocycle G4i, we put it through its paces on some steep downhill runs, hitting speeds up to 25 mph.
Even though we couldn’t do the standard braking test due to our location, these real-world conditions proved the G4i’s brakes are top-notch. The hydraulic system was a star and provided controlled and reliable stopping power. We never felt shaky or lacking in control.
Despite its lightweight frame, the G4i brakes are mighty, offering the confidence and safety you would want on even a much heavier ride.
