Review Overview
As an electric mountain bike made specifically for kids, the Meta HT 24 Power, Commencal has included a number of design features for the smaller rider. The 120 mm travel Manitou fork has been worked on for minimal friction to allow travel even with lighter riders on rough terrain.
It also comes with 150 mm cranks for shorter legs and 27 mm diameter Protaper grips that suit smaller hands. Even the 75 mm dropper post suits shorter legs. The 24” wheels round off a small but mighty eMTB.
This e-bike also comes with a 10-speed Sram EX transmission and powerful Shimano Deore hydraulic brakes with 180 mm rotors for optimum stopping power.
Reasons to Buy
Thanks to its smaller dimensions and 24” mountain bike wheels, the Meta HT 24 Power is a small but mighty eMTB ideal for introducing youngsters to trails and overlanding.
You may be into trail riding and want to take your ankle biter with you, or you may be a precocious rider and need something to expand your horizons. You may even be ready to take them on rides into the backwoods and know their stamina may be an issue. For any of these reasons, the Commencal Meta HT 24 Power could well be the answer.
Things to Consider
The chief drawback to this kid’s eMTB is that the mid-drive motor has a certain amount of friction when not under power. This could mean a difficult ride when the e-bike is out of battery — so you’ll need to be mindful of having enough juice to get home on a ride.
A 20-mile ride on mixed terrain is feasible, but the motor drag may limit you to eight miles out and eight back for safety. This is perfectly ample for all but the most energetic young riders.
