AllTrack Kids Review: Takeaway

Made by quality European e-bike brand Haibike, the AllTrack Kids is a powerful and fun introduction to overlanding and trail riding. Coming with quality components made by Tektro, Shimano, Yamaha, and Suntour, this e-bike should last many years and have good resale value when your little one grows out of it.

Ideal for...

Overlanding
Trail riding
Family rides
Camping or RVing

E-Bike Overview

If you can source this children’s eMTB in the U.S. (it won’t be easy unlike rivals in this space, Woom), the Haibike AllTrack Kids is a great hardtail eMTB to introduce little ones to trail riding.

With a powerful Yamaha PW-TE mid-drive motor, the youngster will be able to get up to 15.5 mph quickly and learn to enjoy the buzz of overlanding and trail riding. The motor is supported by a 400 Wh motor that should give them just under two hours of cycling with maximum power.

As a hardtail, it’s nimble and fun to ride. The components are a smaller size for smaller bodies. Both the brake levers and 24” wheels are designed with kids in mind. Being a miniature eMTB, its SR Suntour fork has 63mm of travel — nothing like the 150 mm of a long travel hardtail, but still plenty for a miniature rider to go for a thrash.

Reasons to Buy

Haibike is one of Europe’s leading e-bike brands and produces high-quality and reliable machines. If we’re talking in metaphors, the AllTrack Kids would be the VW of e-bikes. This is a small-scale yet very well-equipped e-MTB that will allow your child to expand their horizons rapidly and get to learn the skills of off-road riding.

We think the 30-mile range is also a huge selling point. That’s plenty for a nice family day trip on your favorite trail.

Things to Consider

This e-bike’s motor will offer a bit of drag when pedaling it without power. This drag is something that the competitor brand Woom doesn’t have. Fighting this drag could be an issue when the battery runs out and will tire the rider out.

There are only a few outlets in the U.S. that sell Haibike brands. The company hasn’t cracked the U.S. market, so it’ll be difficult to source one and get quick customer support if things go wrong. Haibike is, however, a quality e-bike brand, so this should be less of a problem than a smaller Asian brand with a similar small-scale foothold here.

Ratings

Power
5/5

The 250W Yamaha PW-TE mid-drive motor can give up to 60 Nm of torque which will power a smaller rider over most terrain as hard as they wish. Limited to 15.5 mph, this e-bike shouldn’t go so fast that you can’t keep up, especially if you have an e-bike of your own. It is slightly more powerful than the equivalent Woom Up eMTB, which does only 12 mph.

Range

The 30-mile range will only be on flatter terrain with a lighter rider. Given that much overlanding is on hilly, muddy, or sandy routes, the reality will be a little less. A 15-mile ride with the family is perfectly reachable on this e-bike though, and with that much travel, the kids should sleep well in the car home.

Comfort
5/5

With its smaller proportions and components, the Haibike AllTrack Kids is an ideal e-bike for younger teens who wish to enjoy serious trail riding and family overlanding rides. Everything from the TheSaddle Kids seat to the MTB handlebar grips is designed with smaller geometry in mind.

The rider will be sat in a trekking position and will learn to use their weight to effect maneuvers. This will mean a fair bit of upper body work, and consequently, tired arms and legs.

Durability
4.5/5
4.5

Coming with a 9-speed chain drivetrain, this e-bike will require regular cleaning and maintenance. It will need a new chain every 1,000 miles or so, and you will need to replace the brake pads around the same time.

Haibike offers a two-year warranty on all its frames, and Yamaha a one-year warranty on the motor and battery.

Style

We love the electric yellow color scheme and the great proportions that are well-suited to smaller riders. Overall, this is a good-looking hardtail eMTB that will cut a dash when other people see your youngster riding it.
