Fiido L3 Long Range Review: Takeaway

Thanks to its small folded size and great range, the Fiido L3 has carved its own niche for folding electric bikes. Few can do such big miles, and few can be folded down so small thanks to its tiny, 14” wheels.

E-Bike Overview

The big thing about this little e-bike is its battery. With 1,113 Wh of energy storage, the Fiido L3 folding e-bike can go as far as 120 miles on the lowest pedal assist setting. The bigger battery does mean that the e-bike is a little heavy compared to other folding electric bikes at 52 lbs. This might make it tough to carry on public transport if you’re traveling by train as part of your journey. Living upstairs with no elevator could be a challenge, too.

That said, it folds down to 26” x 14.5” x 25”, which is very small as far as folding e-bikes go. Unfolded, it can be adjusted for a rider of up to 6’5”, which is on the higher end of the height range for folding e-bikes. The 14” wheels help with this as well.

For under $1,000, you’re getting a lot of e-bike for the money. Many of the components aren’t major name brands — Xiongda motors aren’t the best-known e-bike component makers, but the brushless, 350W motor is a component that should outlast the e-bike itself.

You can ride it on pedal assist for the best range, but the L3 also sports a throttle that the company claims will get you around 75% of the range of pedal assist.

Reasons to Buy

With brands like GoCycle and Brompton making quite expensive folding electric bikes, Fiido competes heavily on price. When you need a lower cost yet good potential range, the Fiido L3 could be a good choice. The small folding size means you can easily store it in a closet or trunk without taking up too much space.

The Fiido L3 also offers a reliable battery that can handle up to 800 charge cycles (or up to five years of use). This is decent as far as e-bikes go and should give you thousands of miles of fun.

We also like just how versatile the sizing is on this little e-bike. We mentioned it can fit riders up to 6’5″, but it can also accommodate riders as short as 5′. The adjustable seat post is simple to move up and down to find the right fit.

Things to Consider

The tiny wheels on this e-bike are great when it comes to folding it out of the way, but they can also make for an uncomfortable ride. The big question is, would you want to ride 100 miles on it? That could be a struggle! Its price, however, could be persuasive, as there are few e-bikes out there with such a powerful battery that are ideal for small-space living.

Ratings

Power

The L3’s motor cuts out at 16 mph. That’s slower than many other folding electric bikes. It lacks a variable transmission, meaning you’ll be reliant on the motor to get up any inclines. The road tires, however, offer little rolling resistance, so acceleration should be smooth and powerful.

Range
5/5
5

Range is the big selling point of the Fiido L3. Thanks to the 1.113 kWh battery and relatively low power of the motor, you can do big daily mileages on this e-bike. Range is impacted by terrain, payload weight (up to 265 lbs including rider), and power settings. With a high power setting on big climbs, it’ll offer fewer miles than on the flat with a lower power setting.

Comfort
3/5
3

Adjustable for up to a 6’5” rider, the Fiido L3 should suit everyone’s needs in terms of riding position. You’ll be sat in an upright, city-bike position. With very small, 14” wheels and relatively narrow 1.95” tires, the e-bike may end up shaking your fillings out on rougher roads. It also lacks a suspension, which will make your rides even less smooth. This is a bike you’d choose for its small size and long range over comf

Durability
3.5/5
3.5

There are few components on the L3 to go wrong. You’ll need to regularly oil the chain, and the disc brake pads will need replacing every 1,000 miles or so. Fiido offers a one-year warranty on its e-bikes.

Style
4/5
4

This is a dinky little folding electric bike, with form very much prized over function. It’s not pretty to look at, as its sole goal is to fold down small and get you where you need to go. Even the gray color scheme is a bit drab. For under $1,000, that’s as good as you’ll get.
