E-Bike Overview

Juiced does it again with its innovative CrossCurrent X electric commuter bike. Made with Juiced’s unique 52V power system, it has a powerful, 750W Bafang rear-hub motor that’ll get you around at speeds of 20, 28, or 30 mph on Race Track mode.

Another great feature common to Juiced Bikes is the large battery that packs up to 998 Wh of power. That could — in realistic riding — get you 60 miles on a good day or a 30-mile one-way commute.

The e-bike makers have improved on the standard commuter e-bike in little ways, too. This particular machine has an active cruise control system where it’ll ride itself at a set speed. For safety, as soon as you touch the brakes or a button, it’ll cut out instantly.

For added punch when accelerating you can use throttle boost, which is when the pedal assist will power you with added support via the thumb throttle. If you need to avoid a tricky situation in traffic or get up a particularly steep hill, this is very useful indeed.

As with standard electric commuter bikes, this one has a rack and fenders. The rack will take up to 50 lbs of the overall payload capacity of 275 lbs, which is plenty with your laptop and paperwork or even shopping.

Reasons to Buy

We love the active cruise control system on this e-bike. Though it sounds like you’ll be asking for trouble in some situations, on long, straight sections of empty road, you can switch off and let the bike take the strain. And when you try out the throttle boost function, you may never want to live without it again.

Lag also isn’t a problem with this e-bike thanks to the dual torque and cadence sensors on pedal assist. These measure your pedal force 1,000 times a second to apply just the right amount of power.

Things to Consider

An issue common to all Juiced e-bikes is the ability to switch between Class 2 (throttle, 20 mph), Class 3 (PAS only, 28 mph), and Race Track mode (30 mph, throttle and PAS) on the handlebar. Being lax and leaving it on Race Track mode could leave you in a tangle with hawkeyed law enforcement. Let’s face it: not everyone obeys speeding laws in their cars, so there’s always the temptation to do this on your e-bike.

Ratings

Power
4.5/5
4.5

Set in Race Track mode, the CrossCurrent X will deliver power beyond 30 mph. The 750W Bafang rear hub motor offers a great punch of torque at 80 Nm, enabling the e-bike to tackle most hills. Throttle boost allows you to use PAS and the throttle simultaneously, meaning those nasty, short climbs will no longer be an issue. The road tires offer minimal road resistance, so on the flat, it’ll accelerate like a scalded cat.

Range
4.5/5
4.5

The 998 Wh battery is one of the largest in the electric commuter bike class at any price point. This enables a great range of around 60 miles on a good day with a typical rider on typical terrain. The road tires will allow for efficient use of power, maximizing overall range. Keep in mind, your range might be lower or higher depending on your weight and the terrain you’re traversing.

Comfort
4.5/5
4.5

Thanks to the Selle Royal saddle and Suntour NCX fork, the CrossCurrent X is a comfortable e-bike to ride. You’ll be sat in an upright, city bike position, and the 700c x 45c wheels with road tires will handle most of the bumps in the road. There are also ergonomic lock-on grips that are intended to adapt to your palms and fingers.

Durability
4/5
4

Thanks to well-known, name-brand components like the Suntour forks, Bafang Motor, and Tektro brakes, there’s every reason to believe you’ll get thousands of miles of riding on this e-bike. Oil the chain regularly and get the machine serviced annually, and you’ll maximize its lifespan on the road.

Style
4/5
4

Accepting that the Juiced CrossCurrent X has an unusually large battery, could the battery be enclosed by the downtube? The half measure might lead e-bike watchers to wonder whether it’s really a $2,000+ machine. Other than that issue, it does look like a good machine with its proportions and color schemes of black, gray, and red.
