Juiced HyperScorpion Review: Takeaway

Soon to be removed from Juiced’s offerings thanks to trademark issues, the Juiced HyperScorpion is one of the best affordable utility electric bikes on the market today. With a powerful motor, great range, serious comfort, and fantastic safety features, its passing will be a sad ending in the electric bike world.

HyperScorpion Overview

Now discontinued along with the Hyperscrambler, the HyperScorpion is a class-leading moped-style e-bike with many great features. This and the other model are set to be replaced with very similar models in 2023 after legal problems Juiced had with getting various elements of them trademarked.

What you get in this e-bike is almost worth buying as a collector’s edition. With a unique, 52V architecture, it has a very powerful 1,000W motor and a great range thanks to its 995 Wh battery. For road use, the half-twist throttle can take it to 20 mph. There’s also a Race Mode that allows you to ride up to 30 mph.

The motor is only part of it — Juiced claims that this e-bike can get 68 miles per charge with economical riding. Ridden in an average way by an average rider, this could still mean 40 miles of daily use.

Another aspect is the steel-spring dual-suspension system on this e-bike. Not made for off-roading, it still provides cushioning from potholes and changes in road surfaces and gives the electric bike a feeling like the moped it tries to ape.

Reasons to Buy

Even at the MSRP of $2,499, this was a cutting-edge, low-priced electric bike that won the hearts of e-bike reviewers across the U.S. There are very few reasons to dislike it. Great as a utility e-bike, perhaps for restaurant deliveries or replacing the second car, this punchy little machine can carry up to 275 lbs including the rider.

For street safety, it also has powerful LED moto-style front and rear lights as well as turning signals for other road users to see your immediate plans. There’s even a loud horn and alarm if you need to get a driver’s attention or scare off thieves. With the included mirrors, you can soon see why many will be buying this e-bike as a collector’s model before Juiced’s stocks run out.

Things to Consider

At 102 lbs, all the gadgets and components soon make the HyperScorpion a very heavy little electric bike. Take care not to drop it, as it could be interesting getting it back up!

The exposed chain and non-branded components could also mean this bike won’t be as durable as you’d like. But, it’s an easy fix to upgrade certain parts with more premium versions.

Ratings

Power
5/5
5

Thanks to the 52V architecture of the electronics, the HyperScorpion can unleash up to 90 Nm of torque. In Race Mode, it’ll get up to 30 mph on the throttle. The road tires make for great acceleration, even with a full 275 lb payload.

Range
5/5
5

You’re not going to get a much better range with the technology available on an e-bike at this price. Though Juiced claims 68 miles is possible, an average rider on average terrain will get 40 in a day with a bit to spare.

Hilly terrain, large payloads, and adverse weather conditions can impact range. A heavier rider riding into a headwind will get fewer miles than a lighter rider riding downwind.

Comfort
5/5
5

You’ll be sat in an upright, city-bike position on the moped-style seat. With the 4.2” fat tires and dual suspension, the HyperScorpion is an extremely comfortable e-bike to ride. There’s even an oversized saddle to give your bottom more cushioning on long rides.

Durability
4.5/5
4.5

Likely the only weakness we can identify with this e-bike is the durability of the components. Replace all the components with premium name-branded ones, and you would soon be talking about a $7,000 machine. But before you panic, Juiced offers good warranty terms and doesn’t have a reputation for selling e-bikes that fall apart five minutes after their warranties run out.

Style
5/5
5

Very like a moped in almost every way, the HyperScorpion has become a classic now that it’s being discontinued. Its looks are likely to be copied by Juiced in the newer version, but a groundbreaker like this will always be the first and only. Available in blue, black, or brushed aluminum, the color schemes contribute to a fantastic-looking little utility e-bike.
