Vika+ Flex Review: Takeaway

The Blix Vika+ Flex is a vintage, classic-looking folding electric bike that has ample range for most e-bike needs. Folding to just 36” x 21” x 28.5”, it’ll fit in a car trunk with lots of room to spare and could be ideal for a commute where you take the train and car for the longer legs of the route.

Ideal for...

Multimodal commuting
RVing
Where you have little space for an e-bike at home
Shopping/cafe hopping
Family rides

E-Bike Overview

Not everyone likes the ultra-modern look of many e-bikes on the market. This is where the Blix Vika+ Flex carves its niche. It offers a throwback design and looks just like a classic folding bike. But don’t be fooled — it still has a number of modern design elements including the rear brake light, seatpost-mounted battery, and 500-watt rear-hub motor.

In addition to looking great, this e-bike will get you a realistic 20-25 miles on throttle alone. If you pedal, you may get 30-35 miles on a charge. For speed control, it has high-quality disc brakes that again break the mold of its vintage looks.

With the modular mounting system, you can fit racks and even baskets to the frame to help you get your gear around, too.

Reasons to Buy

There are more modern-looking e-bikes out there that will do similar ranges, but you’d definitely choose the Vika+ Flex over them if you love vintage style. With modern accouterments like the powerful 500W motor and disc brakes, the Vika+ Flex is a vintage folding electric bike that will meet the performance standards you expect from a modern machine.

It’s also a great pick for people who are short on space. If you plan on shoving your bike in a closet when you’re not using it, the Vika+ Flex is the way to go. Another bonus is that it comes with a range of optional basket and rack attachments for utility riding.

Things to Consider

We aren’t too fond of external cable routing. As is, it’s highly distracting and takes away from the bike’s visual appeal. It could be improved in some way by routing in another way, perhaps through the frame. That’s a tiny detail to consider on what is a very good all-around folding e-bike.

Ratings

Power
4/5

A Class 2 e-bike, the Vika+ Flex will get to 20 mph reasonably quickly with its 500W motor. The tires are for road use only, and they won’t slow you down in getting up to speed. For those times you wish to use pedal assist, it has a 7-speed drivetrain that will help on sprints at junctions and for hill starts.

Range
4.5/5
4.5

On throttle alone, you’ll likely get 30 miles of range on most terrain. Pedal assist will get you further — perhaps up to 40 miles at a squeeze.

A variety of factors can limit your range including headwinds, payload weight, and terrain. A bigger rider on a hilly route will get fewer miles than a lighter rider on a flatter route.

Comfort
4/5
4

You’ll be sat in an upright, city bike position that’s comfortable even after many miles in the saddle. You may wish to replace the saddle with an aftermarket one to suit your shape. It also lacks a suspension fork for weight-saving reasons. The wheels and tires are best suited for pure road use, limiting where you may go on this folding electric bike.

Durability
4/5
4

Though the Blix Vika+ Flex is well built, folding e-bikes have the added complication of their folding mechanisms. These extra components can mean they’re usable for less time than non-folding bikes.

Looked after well, the sturdy design of the e-bike will ensure it’s on the road for many years. Blix offers a one-year limited warranty on its frames, batteries, and motors subject to fair wear and tear.

Style
5/5
5

You will likely either love or hate this bike at first sight. Let’s be positive! Redolent of a 1980s-era folding bike, it has great proportions that have a somewhat unrefined look. The color scheme throws back to that era too, and yet it comes with the battery, motor, and display that bring it firmly into the 21st century. Love it or hate it, that’s just why!
