E-Bike Overview

Engineered to handle whatever the forest or mountainside has in store for it, the Rambo Roamer 750 XC is a very good overlanding e-bike with plenty of range.

For just under $4,000, you get a very capable off-road electric bike. It has a payload capacity of 300 lbs and can get as far as 35 miles per charge thanks to its 672 Wh battery.

The 750W mid-drive motor offers up to 120 Newton meters of torque that can kick the bike up a steep slope even with a full load. For the terrain, it has 26” x 4” Kenda off-road tires with a Kevlar lining to prevent punctures.

Though it doesn’t have class-beating payload capacity, this could well be the e-bike of choice for a hunting trip, heading silently into the woods to stalk your prey.

Reasons to Buy

Thanks to the power of the motor, the Roamer 750 XC is great for getting into harder-to-reach areas of wilderness much more quickly than you would on foot. Much lighter than an ATV, and without nearly as much noise, it can be used to get into position for a hunting expedition without your quarry knowing you’re coming.

Another cool thing is that this bike has plenty of compatible accessories you can add on. The rear rack, hand cart, and triple accessory bag are all great for toting your gear across rough terrain

Things to Consider

Quite a heavy e-bike as overlanders go, it also has a relatively small battery for its class. For those planning a big expedition deep into the wilderness, this could impact your buying decision. It also lacks a rack for carrying your gear unless you pay to add it on.

Ratings

Power
4/5
4

At 750W, this is the most powerful road-legal mid-drive motor available. It can offer as much as 120 Nm of torque, and as such, will handle even the steepest inclines without you breaking a sweat as you ride.

The 8-speed pedal transmission offers a fairly good set of ratios, and the 4” Kenda tires will give great grip even on thick mud and loose surfaces.

Range
3.5/5
3.5

The on-tube battery only offers a realistic 20 miles of range in fairly favorable terrain. For safety, you may limit your plans to no more than 7.5 miles off road. There are overlanding e-bikes out there that offer a greater range at a similar price point.

Terrain, weather conditions, and payload weight can all impact how far a battery will get you. On very tough terrain on the Roamer 750 XC, you might only get 10 miles per charge.

Comfort
4/5
4

Sat in a forward-leaning, trekking position, you’ll be using your body to help maneuver the e-bike. This could mean that after a bigger ride, your arms and shoulders will feel the effects as much as your legs.

The fat tires and quality suspension fork round this off to being a reasonably comfortable bike to ride even after 20 miles in the saddle.

Durability
4/5
4

Unlike many of the company’s rivals, Rambo Electric Bikes have solid rims on the wheels for durability. These and the Kevlar lining in the 4” tires should ensure that not much will impact your fun in the hills.

You should oil the chain regularly and keep an eye on the disc brakes and transmission — these will need replacing every 1,000 miles or so.

Style
3/5
3

Without being a retro-modern e-bike, the design of the Roamer 750 XC is very dated and resembles e-bikes from the mid-2010s with the battery mounted on the downtube and not in it. As such, it doesn’t look like the newest design on the market today, a disappointment for a relatively new design of electric bike.
