How We Review
The eBikes.org team of e-bike experts and cycling fanatics has spent hours completing hands-on reviews to give you a realistic and unbiased overview of each model. And even when we can’t get our hands on the model, we examine specifications, rider experiences, and manufacturer details to create a comprehensive critique.
Our review methodology includes a careful examination of core features like power, range, durability, and, of course, comfort. Our experts then award a 5-star rating for each aspect.
For this particular list, we’ve gone through all (yes, all!) our e-bike reviews and selected models with at least a 4-star comfort rating. We then narrowed the selection to the top two models in each e-bike category, looking at features like suspension and frame design that directly impact comfort.
In many categories, our top two e-bike picks include nearly identical comfort features. We broke the tie by weighing other factors, such as price and motor.

Reviews of the Most Comfortable E-Bikes of 2024
Whether you want to cruise city streets or explore rugged trails, there’s a comfortable e-bike that fits your lifestyle. We include 21 categories below, each with two comfortable bike options — no repeated models.
As you peruse the list, just remember that some bikes could technically fall under multiple categories. For example, the TENWAYS CGO lineup could work as the most comfortable step-through, Class 1, commuter, or affordable e-bike. With that in mind, make sure to check out each category that may work for you so you don’t miss a top-rated bike.
Enough of the logistics. Sit back, relax, and let’s roll into comfort!
Most Comfortable Class 1 Electric Bike
Orbea Vibe
Ideal for…
- City adventures
- Short commutes
- Light shopping
Why We Picked It
With Class 1 e-bikes, simplicity and efficiency are the name of the game. Orbea’s line of Vibe bikes offers both, plus a high level of attention to comfort. These models don’t have the best suspension forks or fattest tires — but, to be honest, they don’t need such features.
Instead, the Vibe bike lineup offers top-notch comfort with carefully considered details, like large 29” wheels that easily smooth out ruts and bumps in the road. In the absence of suspension, Orbea decided to include a fixed carbon fork that’s flexible enough to absorb the minimal vibrations of city riding.
The carbon fork — along with the aluminum frame and small battery — helps keep these bikes’ weight around 33 lbs. A weight that low is almost unheard of, and it makes transporting the bike and pedaling without the assist quite comfortable.
Orbea’s standard Vibe e-bike comes with a step-through frame, but you can select a ‘mid’ model for a mid-step frame and a more comfortable riding position. These ‘mid’ models also include a different Brooks Cambium saddle that provides continuous comfort, thanks to flexible rubber and all-surface absorption.
Other Features to Consider
We can’t include an Orbea e-bike without mentioning the vast personalization options — something few brands offer. As of April 2024, there are 15 Vibe models, each with varying color options and features (like a rear rack). A few ‘24 models are available in any colorway (quite literally), and you can upgrade the bikes to include things like carrier accessories or a range extender.
Speaking of range, you can realistically get about 30 mi out of an Orbea Vibe e-bike. That’s nothing extraordinary, but it may work fine for short urban adventures. You can always increase that with Orbea’s range extender, but just keep in mind, it’s another USD 500-600 on top of the USD 3,000-4,000 you’d spend on the bike alone.
It’s also worth mentioning the motor, which may seem a little underwhelming to people used to absolute e-bike powerhouses. However, the 40 Nm of torque is more than enough for a Class 1 city cruiser.
Bottom Line
The Orbea Vibe e-bikes are all-around standout models. They offer everything you could want in a comfortable Class 1 e-bike: large 29” wheels, a fixed carbon fork, and mid-step frame options.
Cannondale Treadwell Neo 2 Remixte
Like with Orbea Vibe models, simple comfort reigns in the Cannondale Treadwell Neo 2. The 27.5” wheels, soft seat, and ergonomic grips help reduce vibrations from rocky roads and offset the absence of a suspension fork.
The highlight of the Treadwell Neo 2 — at least in terms of comfort — is the frame. With a step-through frame and riser handlebars, you can enjoy a more relaxed, upright riding position.
Most Comfortable Class 2 Electric Bike
Comfort 2 Step-Thru
Ideal for…
- Casual rides around town
- Leisurely urban and suburban rides
- Light shopping trips
- Riding with a passenger
Why We Picked It
When an e-bike has the word ‘comfort’ in its name, you know it has some exceptionally lush features. The Charge Comfort 2 certainly doesn’t disappoint, with 27.5” wheels and almost-fat 2.6” tires that absorb riding vibrations and stabilize the rider. Charge also includes a proprietary Comfort+ saddle.
Both the step-through frame and handlebar with 60 mm rise enable an upright riding position, while the ergo soft grips reduce wrist strain. This electric bike only comes in one size, but thankfully, it’s an inclusive size that comfortably fits riders between 4’11” and 6’3”.
The bike’s weight also gives a nod to inclusivity. Even with the battery and rear rack, the bike weighs only 55 lbs. That’s not super lightweight but definitely light enough for most riders to carry up a few stairs or ride without the motor.
Charge really thought of everything, considering it included foldable pedals and handlebars. This doesn’t affect the riding experience, but it can certainly make the storage and transport process less of a headache.
Other Features to Consider
Charge focused more on comfort with its aptly named Comfort 2 Step-Thru. As a result, this bike isn’t a powerhouse — but it doesn’t need to be. The 250 W motor and throttle offer plenty of support for most urban hills and comfortable cruising. If you’re looking for a comfortable bike that provides a bit more oomph and can handle some tougher off-roading, you might like Charge’s XC.
The Comfort 2 can supposedly travel up to 50 mi on one charge. That’s pretty standard for e-bikes and most likely sufficient for leisure rides or shopping trips. Just keep in mind that the realistic range probably hovers around 40 mi, possibly less if you laden the rear rack with groceries or a child.
Regarding price, we have absolutely no complaints. This bike costs a very reasonable $1,900, making it one of our more affordable models. Perhaps the only major downside is Comfort 2’s popularity. As of April 2024, the bike is out of stock, with more on the way.
Bottom Line
There’s no way around it: The Charge Comfort 2 prioritizes rider experience. Its step-through frame easily accommodates most riders, and the almost-fat tires compensate for the lack of suspension by gliding over rough roads.
Denago Cruiser Model 1 Top-Tube
Denago’s Cruiser Model 1 Top-Tube comes in a very close second only because of its step-over frame and more limited rider height range (5’4”-6’3”). We’re getting a bit nitpicky, though, since the bike offers quite a bit of comfort.
It sports cushy 2.3” wide tires on mid-sized 27.5” wheels that can easily handle bumps and uneven pavement. While it’s not a step-through frame, the swept-back handlebars help keep the rider in a relaxed riding position.
Most Comfortable Class 3 Electric Bike
Comfort 2 Step-Thru
Ideal for…
- Fast and comfy commuting
- Touring through the city or around the countryside
- Shopping or light utility runs
Why We Picked It
Whether you get the 2021 version or the latest 2023 model, the Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 offers just as much comfort as it does speed. Take the tires, for example. Specialized made the wheels slightly smaller with the newer model, but they still measure 27.5”. Combined with the thicker 2.3” tires, the 2023 Turbo Vado 5.0 can easily manage rough streets.
We also love the decision to add a spring suspension seat post in the latest model, complete with 40 mm of travel. Specialized even updated the suspension Fork, this time equipping the Turbo Vado 5.0 with a RockShox Recon Silver RL that gives 80 mm of travel.
Moving on to the cockpit, the Turbo Vado 5.0 includes swept-back handlebars for a comfortable riding position. The 2021 version has just 9° of backsweep, while the newest Turbo Vado 5.0 offers 15°.
The frame also provides some comfort, weighing a manageable 55 lbs. It even comes in four different sizes to accommodate riders with heights between 5’1” and 6’4”.
Other Features to Consider
The Turbo Vado 5.0 offers plenty of comfortable features but incorporates a step-over frame. While traditional, it doesn’t give the most comfortable riding position or the easiest mounting and dismounting experience.
Thankfully, Specialized offers step-through versions of the Turbo Vado. It also released SL models, which are super lightweight at just 33 lbs. These make for more comfortable and manageable e-bikes, but just keep in mind that the lighter versions don’t offer as much power or range.
Speaking of power and range, the 2023 Turbo Vado 5.0 offers quite a bit of both. It boasts 90 Nm of torque, so you can quickly accelerate to the maximum 28 mph, and the battery lasts up to a claimed 75 mi.
Bottom Line
We said that you didn’t have to compromise comfort for speed, and the Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 is the perfect example of that. Its new-and-improved seat suspension works with the mid-sized wheels and suspension fork to remove the feel of rough pavement and potholes.
Ultimate C380+ HMB
Gazelle’s Ultimate C380+ HMB is neck-and-neck with the 2023 Turbo Vado 5.0 in terms of comfort. Both weigh 55 lbs and sport 80 mm of suspension travel to smooth out bumpy roads.
The Ultimate C380+ HMB stands out with its slightly wider height range for riders 4’10”-6’4”. However, what ultimately (get it? Ultimate?) knocked it down to the runner-up position is that Gazelle only offers step-over and mid-step frame options. If you want a more comfortable step-through frame, you’d have to forgo the perks of a Class 3 bike.
Most Comfortable Out-of-Class Electric Bike
Savannah ULTRA CC
Ideal for…
- Regular commutes
- Urban touring
- Light off-roading and backwoods adventures
Why We Picked It
Out-of-class electric bikes break the mold of the widely accepted e-bike classification, usually regarding maximum speed limits. Frey took it one step further with its Savannah ULTRA CC, creating an e-bike that exceeds both speed and comfort expectations.
It sports a full suspension system, with a RockShox Recon RL Boost front fork that offers 110 mm of travel and a RockShox Monarch rear shock. Of course, the dual suspension thing is nothing new. What is new, though, is how Frey combined it with a step-through frame.
Dual suspension typically appears on robust step-over e-bikes, meaning the Savannah ULTRA CC is one of the very few bikes of its kind. It not only offers a comfortable, upright riding position but also exceptional vibration absorption when riding over rough roads and trails.
Mid-sized wheels with 2.4” tires add even more layers of comfort to the Savannah ULTRA CC, as does the universal sizing. Frey claims that any and all riders can use this model.
Other Features to Consider
While the idea of universal sizing is undoubtedly attractive, it’s hard to imagine that this bike can comfortably fit any rider. The maximum payload totals 264 lbs, and that alone proves that not everyone can ride the Savannah ULTRA CC.
Size critiques aside, this is a solid out-of-class e-bike. The tires and suspension work well for (almost) all-terrain riding. The tires and suspension work well on both urban streets and backwood trails; just don’t expect it to excel on advanced MTB trails.
As an out-of-class e-bike, the Savannah ULTRA CC includes an absolute powerhouse of a motor. It provides 1,000 W of power (1,500 W peak) and 160 Nm of torque with a maximum speed of 34 mph.
The range is a bit less impressive despite the 1,008 Wh battery, probably due to its 70 lbs of weight. Frey claims a 43.5 mi range, but it’s likely slightly lower in realistic conditions.
Bottom Line
Frey has certainly turned some heads with the Savannah ULTRA CC’s dual suspension and step-through frame. This combination — plus the mid-sized wheels — keeps the rider comfortable while riding at 30+ mph.
DŌST Drop CVT
We’ve included the DŌST in this category since it’s technically an out-of-class e-bike with configurations for both Class 2 and Class 3. Regardless of how you configure it, the comfort is undeniable.
The Drop CVT doesn’t have full suspension like the Savannah ULTRA CC, but it does come with a suspension fork that gives 100 mm of travel. It also sports a low-step frame and wide seat for a comfy riding experience.
Most Comfortable Electric Bike Under $2,000
Tenways CGO600 Pro
Ideal for…
- Quick, effortless commutes
- City cruising
- Urban adventures
Why We Picked It
Affordable prices don’t always equal poor quality. In fact, with models like the TENWAYS CGO600 Pro, the opposite is true. This model includes top-notch components and is deceptively comfortable.
Let’s start with the exceptionally low weight of about 35 lbs, the product of an aerospace aluminum frame. Not only does the lightweight frame look sleek, but it also makes the e-bike life a bit plusher by removing the hassle of carrying a 60+ lb bike up the stairs and, potentially, riding without the motor.
While the TENWAYS CGO600 Pro does have a step-over frame (step-through version discussed below), the adjustable handlebar stem allows for increased comfort. Move it up for a comfortable upright cruising position or down for more aggressive riding.
The wheels and magnetic torque sensor also provide a cushy riding experience. Measuring 28”, the tires are plenty large enough to glide right over potholes and unfinished pavement. And if you need a bit more support while pedaling, the torque sensor offers just the power you need for a smooth ride.
Other Features to Consider
TENWAYS specializes in urban bikes, so don’t expect this bike to do wonders on the trail. As far as city bikes go, though, this ranks as one of the best and most durable. The Gates CDX carbon belt is virtually maintenance-free. Combined with the aerospace aluminum frame, you’re looking at a bike built to last.
The 360 Wh battery also provides a decent range — especially for commuters. You can get about 52 mi out of it before running out of battery, and even then, you could easily continue biking, given its low weight.
Of course, a lightweight bike doesn’t have the room for a massive motor. That isn’t to say the CGO600 Pro lacks power, though. TENWAYS prioritized efficiency over a juiced-up motor by pairing the 350 W motor with a torque sensor. It’s all about giving enough power at the right time.
And just how affordable is the TENWAYS CGO600 Pro? It starts at USD 1,600. That’s a steal if you ask us.
Bottom Line
As a super-comfy, lightweight e-bike, it’s hard to believe that the TENWAYS CGO600 Pro costs less than USD 2,000. But it does, and we can’t quite get enough of this e-bike.
Lectric XP Step-Thru 3.0
Ready for an even more affordable yet ultra-comfy e-bike? The Lectric XP Step-Thru 3.0 starts at just USD 999 and, as you probably guessed by the name, offers an adjustable step-through frame and a comfortable upright riding position.
On top of that, the 50 mm front suspension forks and fat 3” tires can easily absorb bumps and ruts in the road. Just keep in mind that the tires only measure 20”, which is a little small for a completely smooth ride — and maybe also for tall riders. Still, we can’t deny how much comfort Lectric packs into this affordable (and foldable) package.
Most Comfortable Belt-Driven Electric Bike
Specialized Turbo Como
Ideal for…
- Laid-back rides
- Daily commutes and light errands
- Local town adventures
- Urban excursions
Why We Picked It
Replacing the traditional chain with a low-maintenance, durable belt is a fairly new innovation, but one that’s definitely worth the investment if you ask us. While only a handful of e-bikes come with a belt, those that do often accompany it with high-quality comfort features.
In fact, several of the other belt-driven e-bikes also appear on this list, like the TENWAYS and DŌST bikes. But our winner has to be any of the 2023 Specialized Turbo Como IGH models: 3.0, 4.0, or 5.0. All three versions include a Gates carbon drive system and a low step-through frame (in three inclusive sizes) for a relaxed riding position.
The Specialized Turbo Como also integrates suspension to smooth out bumpy roads. In the front, it has an SR Suntour suspension fork (or a RockShox Recon Silver RL, in the case of the Turbo Como 5.0) that allows 80 mm of travel. Both the 4.0 and 5.0 models add a 40 mm seatpost suspension for some extra absorption.
Mid-sized wheels with 2.3” tires increase the comfort level, effortlessly gliding the bike over bumps and holes. Specialized even included ergonomic grips and a Comfort Gel saddle for a lush feel.
Other Features to Consider
Specialized calls this a ‘long-range’ bike since it can travel up to 90-120 km, depending on the model — but that’s kilometers, not miles. In reality, the Turbo Como will only get you about 56-75 mi in Eco mode, which is bordering long-range.
These bikes include Turbo Full Power motors that give a nice burst of speed. However, only one of the Turbo Como IGH models is a Class 1 — the 3.0. The other two variations are both Class 3, capable of reaching 28 mph. This definitely isn’t a knock on the bike, but riders should be aware in case local regulations don’t allow Class 3 e-bikes.
We also have to mention Specialized’s nifty anti-theft features. You can disable (and enable) the motor and set the alarm right from the app — no pickable locks or bike chains needed.
Bottom Line
Specialized certainly knows how to combine comfort with innovation. The belt-driven Turbo Como IGH models include suspension, a step-through frame, and ergonomic touches for a smooth ride.
Vvolt Sirius
As a light eMTB bike, the Vvolt Sirius provides a more forward-leaning riding position and a step-over frame — which doesn’t scream comfort at first glance. However, this belt-drive e-bike is, arguably, just as comfortable as the Specialized Turbo Como (if you fit within the height range).
In fact, the suspension offers more travel, (100 mm compared to the Turbo Como’s 80 mm), and the bike weighs a more manageable 55 lbs. We only ranked this as a runner-up because it scored a bit lower on other features, like the range.
Most Comfortable All-Terrain Electric Bike
MTNBEX Explore EX750
Ideal for…
- Overlanding and off-road riding
- Camping and hunting trips
- Trail riding
- Older riders getting back into off-roading
Why We Picked It
Comfort lies at the core of all-terrain e-bikes — at least it should. You want the same smooth riding experience on gravel paths and backwoods trails as on paved roads. MTNBEX understands this, as shown with its all-terrain Explore EX750.
This electric bike can comfortably handle street riding plus any offroad riding short of hard-core mountain biking, largely thanks to its suspension system and wheels. MTNBEX included a proprietary inverted air suspension fork that allows 150 mm of travel — definitely enough to absorb hard drops and vibrations that come with off-roading.
The MTNBEX Explore EX750 comes with standard 26” wheels. They’re not as flexible and absorbent as the new 29-ers, but the addition of 4.25” tires makes up for that. These fat, grippy tires smooth out rough terrain and help you effortlessly tackle terrain like snow and sand.
Other Features to Consider
MTNBEX only sells the Explore EX750 in one size — large — which won’t fit everyone. As with many other all-terrain bikes, the Explore EX750 weighs a lot. It totals 83 lbs, making transport and motorless riding a challenge.
However, that weight brings a powerful motor you can toggle to 750 W or 1,000 W, with a max output of 1,500 W. These configuration options, plus a throttle, mean the bike can switch between different e-bike classes to comply with local regulations.
The top speed, though, is 35 mph, officially making this an out-of-class e-bike. The 840 Wh battery can also provide 60 mi, although that range may drop significantly if you rely on the throttle.
The Explore EX750’s USD 3,000 price tag is also reasonable. Keep in mind that you may need to invest regularly in drivetrain maintenance, especially if you are a throttle-happy rider.
Bottom Line
The MTNBEX Explore EX750 is about as comfortable as all-terrain e-bikes come, with fat tires and a front suspension system. Just make sure you fit the frame and can handle the extra weight.
Aventon Aventure.2
It was a tough call between the Aventon Aventure.2 and MTNBEX Explore EX750, considering both offer fat tires and front suspension. The Aventure.2 even weighs less (around 77 lbs) and costs under USD 2,000.
However, we can’t overlook the fact that the suspension offers 80 mm of travel — nearly half the travel that the MTNBEX Explore offers. Of course, 80 mm is nothing to complain about, but it won’t handle rough terrain as comfortably.
Most Comfortable Electric Mountain Bike
Aventon Ramblas eMTB
Ideal for…
- Beginner mountain bikers
- Riders returning to the MTB world
- Aggressive city riding and commuting
Why We Picked It
With hardtail, step-over frames, and aggressive riding positions, electric mountain bikes don’t really give off a comfortable vibe. However, comfort and mountain biking can go hand-in-hand, as the Aventon Ramblas proves.
This 2024 model sports a RockShox front fork, which provides 130 mm of travel to help absorb the rocky paths and drops of mountain biking. What’s more impressive, especially at Aventon’s affordable price range, is the dropper seatpost, which drops 150 mm to give plenty of clearance when needed.
The seat also gives some extra comfort, as do the wheels. Most sizes include 29” wheels, which offer maximum flexibility on rough mountain bike paths. Only the size small includes 27.5” wheels, but they still provide plenty of comfort.
Speaking of sizing, Aventon offers four frame sizes, from small to extra-large. The Ramblas can comfortably fit riders 5’1”-6’5”.
Other Features to Consider
Like other Aventon bikes, the Ramblas is a fairly budget-friendly bike. While not as affordable as other models, we find the USD 2,700 price tag quite reasonable.
The Ramblas’ 250 W motor might seem shockingly low, but remember, this is a Class 1 bike. And the motor can give an impressive 100 Nm of torque when needed, so it’s deceptively powerful.
We also want to highlight the range. Aventon claims an 80 mi range, but 50 mi would be a more realistic expectation.
Bottom Line
Aventon made headlines when it released Ramblas, its first eMTB. Beyond that, though, the bike offers significant comfort to the MTB world. We can’t get enough!
Canyon Grand Canyon:ON
Again, we have an extremely close call here. Canyon’s Grand Cayon:ON is another comfortable hardtail eMTB with a dropper post. The front fork gives slightly less travel (120 mm compared to the Ramblas’ 130 mm), but the dropper post gives 170 mm of movement in larger sizes (compared to the Ramblas’ fixed 150 mm).
Both bikes also have inclusive sizes and large wheels for maximum comfort, so we’re really splitting hairs here. We ultimately put this Canyon bike in second place due to its much shorter range and higher price. But these bikes both excel in terms of comfort.
Most Comfortable Cargo Electric Bike
Xtracycle Swoop
Ideal for…
- Replacing the car
- Family adventures
- Doing grocery or utility runs
- School dropoffs and pickups
Why We Picked It
Cargo bikes are the pack-mules of the e-bike world, and they tend to be a bit bulky and heavy to support hundreds of pounds of cargo. Not the Xtracycle Swoop. It incorporates top-quality components that provide both utility and comfort.
Let’s start with the aluminum frame. While it’s no lightweight superstar, it does weigh 63 lbs. That’s quite reasonable for a sturdy cargo bike and allows for easy transport and storage.
The frame also swoops down into a step-through design, prompting a comfortable, upright riding position. An Xtracycle Comfort saddle adds to the overall plush feel, as do the optional seat cushions for the rear rack.
With two different wheel sizes, the Swoop balances comfort and utility. Xtracycle put a small 20” wheel on the back to make room for a large rear rack. Of course, a 20” wheel is not the definition of comfort — but the front 26” wheel makes up for that and helps smooth out ruts in the road.
Other Features to Consider
One of the best things about the Xtracycle Swoop — at least in our opinion — is the customer service. Yes, we know: Customer service doesn’t change the bike’s quality. However, it does affect the overall e-bike ownership experience. We were pleasantly surprised to see just how attentive the team was during the bike selection process.
As a cargo bike, the Xtracycle Swoop performs well. It has a maximum payload capacity of 400 lbs, meaning you can carry quite a bit of cargo or additional riders. Xtracycle also offers a diverse lineup of accessories, like a child seat, front rack, and all-weather bags.
The Swoop’s EP 8 motor and battery are also quite impressive for a heavy-duty cargo bike. Depending on the additional weight, you can expect about 30-60 mi. Just keep in mind that these quality components raise the price a bit to about USD 4,500.
Bottom Line
The Xtracycle Swoop is a large and capable — yet comfortable — cargo e-bike. The sturdy step-through frame enables an upright position and easy maneuverability while carrying up to 400 lbs. No complaints here!
Lectric XPedition Cargo
The Lectric XPedition Cargo offers some serious competition to the Swoop, coming in at a lower price and offering a much greater 150 mi range. However, the final decision came down to comfort.
While the XPedition Cargo includes an accessible step-through frame and a similar weight, we didn’t love the saddle (although the adjustable seat post and stem are certainly nice!). Plus, both wheels are only 20” and not built for maximum comfort. The fat tires help compensate for the smaller wheels, but they don’t absorb all the bumps in the road.
Most Comfortable Folding Electric Bike
Montague M-E1
Ideal for…
- Gravel trekking
- Trail rides and camping
- Easy travel and storage
- Multimodal commuting
Why We Picked It
If you imagine a folding bike, you might picture an e-bike with a small frame and obviously visible folding joints. Well, that’s not the Montague M-E1. This is a full-size performance bike — that also folds.
When we say full-size, we really mean it. This bike doesn’t have the small wheels typical of folding bikes but large 29” wheels for ultimate comfort on trails and roads alike. It also fits taller riders (5’4”-6’4”), something not too common with folding bikes.
The step-through frame keeps riders in a comfortable upright position, while the Suntour suspension fork absorbs vibrations on varied terrain.
With the Montague M-E1, the comfort even extends to transportation. The bike weighs 54 lbs, which isn’t too heavy to lift into a van or onto the subway. And if you can’t lift it, the wheels roll parallel when folded for smooth transportation.
Other Features to Consider
At first glance, you can’t even tell it folds down to 38” x 38” x 13”. A quick release in the frame and another in the handlebars enable quick folding. The final compact size might seem slightly bigger than other folding e-bikes, but that’s only because of the large wheels.
The Montegue M-E1 can travel up to 40 mi on a single charge, which is pretty standard. However, speed demons might be disappointed to hear that the bike only reaches an 18 mph maximum speed.
With folding bikes, riders often worry about durability. While the M-E1 sports a solid build, the folding mechanisms are, undoubtedly, subject to more wear and tear. As a result, Montague doesn’t offer its traditional lifetime guarantee but a 5-year warranty.
Bottom Line
As a full-size model, the Montague M-E1 has shaken up the folding e-bike industry. It includes a comfortable step-through frame and large 29” wheels that smooth out any path — as long as you fit within the height range.
Flyer™ Folding Cargo E-Bike
For all our shorter riders, don’t fret! We have another super-comfy folding bike that accommodates a greater range of rider heights: the Flyer Folding Cargo e-bike. With an adjustable seat post and telescoping handlebar stem, the Flyer Folding bike works well for people between 4’11” and 6’4”.
The plush seat also makes long rides much more comfortable, but the small 20” wheels detract from that luxury feel a bit. With this smaller size, you may feel vibrations and road unevenness.
Most Comfortable Commuter Electric Bike
Mokwheel Asphalt
Ideal for…
- Urban riding
- Riding in heavy traffic
- Regular commuting
- Cruising around town
Why We Picked It
Biking to work should make you feel good, not cause pain! If you’re a bike commuter, you need a model built for regular city rides — one like the Mokwheel Asphalt (the name alone screams urban design). Whether you have a 15-minute or hour-long commute, the Mokwheel Asphalt can get you there in comfort.
It sports 27.5” x 2.4” tires large enough to help you glide right over potholes or broken pavement. The front wheel even has a 100 mm hydraulic shock to absorb vibrations from the bumpy road.
Even without a step-through frame, the Mokwheel Asphalt has a swept-back handlebar that keeps you in a more relaxed position. This design helps reduce the strain on the upper body, providing a significant perk for people biking to a desk job where they spend all day at work hunched over a desk.
The customized leather seat also provides extra cushion for your commute, and you can adjust the seat post for the most comfortable height. That same lush feel appears in the grips, which complement the clutter-free handlebars.
Other Features to Consider
Besides comfort, the Mokwheel Asphalt offers several other commuter-friendly features, like integrated brake lights for riding in traffic and reflective strips for visibility. It also includes a solid, durable frame that can withstand regular traffic commutes.
The 48 V battery provides up to 60 miles of range on a single charge, which is probably more than enough for a daily commute. And even if you forget to charge it one night and the battery runs out, the bike weighs a somewhat manageable 60 lbs. It’s not lightweight, but it’s not exactly a beast, either.
Perhaps the major drawback is that the Mokwheel Asphalt only comes in one size: large. Riders 5’6”-6’6” will fit comfortably on the bike, but anyone outside that range might struggle.
Bottom Line
As the name implies, the Mokwheel Asphalt is built to glide over paved urban streets. Its mid-sized wheels, front-wheel suspension, and ergonomic handlebars help make bike commuting comfortable. Just make sure you fit within the rider height range!
Aventon Level.2
The Aventon Level.2 comes close behind the Mokwheel Asphalt. It includes 27.5” tires and a front suspension fork, both of which help smooth out bumpy roads — just like the Mokwheel Asphalt. A few minor differences include the Level.2’s slightly thinner tires and suspension with 65 mm of travel (compared to the Mokwheel’s 100 mm).
What sets the Aventon Level.2 apart, though, are the frame options. You can choose a step-over or a more comfortable step-through model and then select the size that best fits your height.
Most Comfortable Touring Electric Bike
Cannondale Adventure Neo 1EQ
Ideal for…
- Sightseeing trips
- Touring the city
- Longer commutes
- Backroad cruising
Why We Picked It
Perhaps the two most important features of a touring e-bike are the range and comfort (so you can actually survive a multi-day adventure). It was hard to pick just one winner here with so many top contenders, but Cannondale’s Adventure Neo 1 EQ takes the top spot due to its all-around comfortable build and impressive range.
In fact, Cannondale advertises the Adventure Neo 1 EQ as the most comfortable e-bike ever. We might have to argue that point, but it’s (clearly) at the top of our list. Not only does it have an accommodating step-through frame, but it also includes a plush, wide saddle for those long sightseeing rides.
The bike can comfortably handle varied terrain, from rough urban roads to light trails. Mid-sized 27.5” x 2.2” wheels ride smoothly over uneven pavement, and the SR Suntour fork offers 63 mm of travel to absorb any upward force.
Additional comfort-focused features include a suspension seatpost and an ergonomic swept-back handlebar. As a bonus, Cannondale offers the bike in two sizes so people can find the most comfortable fit.
Other Features to Consider
As mentioned, the range is a critical feature for touring bikes. Cannondale claims the Adventure Neo 1 EQ can trek an impressive 85 mi on a single charge, thanks to the 625 Wh battery. In reality, though, you could probably get about 60 mi out of the bike — but that’s still enough for a full day of riding or shorter multi-day trips.
The Adventure Neo 1 EQ also provides up to 60 Nm of torque that helps you conquer any hill. You can reach up to 20 mph with the Bosch Performance Line Cruise motor, which is probably plenty for touring.
Just note that Cannondale sells several versions of the Adventure Neo. The 1 EQ offers the longest range and the highest price tag. More budget-friendly options, like the Adventure Neo 4, provide the same comfy, large wheels and step-through frame but not as much range or torque.
Bottom Line
Cannondale has been making top-quality bikes for decades, and the Adventure Neo 1 EQ is no exception. It has everything needed for comfortable touring, from a plush saddle and Suntour fork to mid-sized wheels and a step-through frame.
Norco Scene VLT
The Norco Scene VLT comes in a very close second, only falling short due to the lack of a suspension fork. However, the bike includes enough other comfortable features that you probably won’t even miss the suspension (unless you try trail riding).
For touring on paved roads, though, the Norco Scene VLT is hard to beat. It offers many of the same features as the Cannondale Adventure Neo 1 EQ, such as 27.5” x 2.2” wheels and a step-through frame. The dropper post even offers 31.6 mm of travel for any potholes.
Most Comfortable Fat-Tire Electric Bike
Himiway Cobra
Ideal for…
- Overlanding and off-road touring
- Hunting and fishing
- Camping and wilderness adventuring
Why We Picked It
Tires can make or break e-bike comfort. The wider they are, the better the bike rolls smoothly over any type of rough terrain — which is why fat-tire bikes are some of the most sought-after models in terms of comfort.
Of course, all fat-tire bikes have some extra comfort due to the wide, cushiony tires. However, the Himiway Cobra outranks other fat-tire bikes because of its super-fat 4.8” tires and dual suspension system (in other words, suspension in both the front and rear.
Fat tires typically range from 3.7”-5.0”, so the Cobra’s nearly 5” tires are some of the widest available. They provide next-level grip and comfort on all terrain types, making the Cobra a top pick for activities like overlanding and off-roading.
The bike also smooths out rough roads with a four-bar linkage suspension system, one of the first of its kind in the U.S. This cutting-edge technology independently absorbs vibrations and the upward force of riding through ruts and rocks without depending on the braking system.
Other Features to Consider
The Himiway Cobra is a bit of a beast, weighing nearly 90 lbs. Of course, this is a tough overlanding and hunting bike with a 750 W motor that can easily power that extra weight (up to 400 lbs, actually).
Even though the motor can handle the extra weight, it’s something to keep in mind. Transporting an almost 90 lb bike might be a pain, as would riding it through the woods without the motor.
Now, you might never need to worry about the battery running out since Himiway claims an 80 mi range. But let’s be real. A 40-60 mi range is much more realistic when carrying an average-sized rider and any cargo.
The heaviness also speaks to the materials and durability. Himiway kept the bike’s price low by incorporating some average components rather than name-brand products. While this keeps the bike affordable, it somewhat lowers durability.
One final consideration is that this e-bike won’t comfortably fit everyone — only riders 5’6” and over.
Bottom Line
Fat-tire bikes should make riding over rough terrain easier, and the Himiway Cobra does that and more. The suspension and super fat tires allow for luxury riding — or at least as luxury as overlanding with an 88 lb bike can get.
Rad Power RadExpand 5
Fat-tire bikes aren’t just for buff riders over 5’6”. Models like the RadExpand 5 offer comfortable handling and riding for smaller riders. The RadExpand 5 weighs 62.5 lbs — which is still heavy but much more manageable — and accommodates people 4’10”-5’10”.
The foldable step-through frame and 4” fat tires smooth out rough terrain and compensate (somewhat) for the lack of a suspension fork. Adjustable handlebars and ergonomic grips add an extra touch of comfort. If you really want something with suspension, though, consider the new-and-improved RadExpand 5 Plus.
Most Comfortable Passenger Electric Bike
TREK Fetch+ 4
Ideal for…
- Family adventures around the city
- Running errands and shopping
- Delivery runs
- Ridesharing — but with e-bikes
Why We Picked It
Rider comfort is one thing, but what about comfort for the passenger(s)? If you want a cargo e-bike to haul around a few kids, a significant other, or a friend, make sure the cargo space is plush — or at least adaptable.
The Trek Fetch+ 4 offers peak comfort for both rider and passenger, with its upright riding position and long wheelbase that keeps the bike low to the ground and provides extra stability. Suspension in both the seat pot and the front Suntour fork adds to the comfort level and smooths out bumps and potholes.
While the cargo area isn’t as roomy as a limousine, it’s just about as spacious as they come in an e-bike. It sits between the handlebar stem and front wheel and can carry up to 175 lbs.
The bike comes with two complementary child seats, complete with head supports and five-point harnesses. If you want to customize the space for added comfort, Trek sells add-ons like an infant seat adaptor, a child bench, recliner seats, and rain tarps. And we can’t forget that you can also sit a rider on the back cargo space, as long as you are still under the 551 lb payload.
Other Features to Consider
Trek designed the Fetch+ 4 with a massive payload, but that means the bike itself is also quite heavy at about 165 lbs. Thanks to the Bosch Performance Line Cargo motor, you don’t feel that extra weight while riding — unless, of course, the battery runs out of charge.
But to avoid that, you can just make sure to stay within the range, right? Well, it’s not quite that simple. We had a hard time putting an exact range limit on the Trek Fetch+ 4 because it depends heavily on the weight of the cargo. With the bike completely loaded, we got about 30 miles out of it. That’s decent enough for city adventures, but it’s nothing spectacular.
The price is another less-than-thrilling feature, totaling nearly USD 8,500. Considering the durable components and extra cargo space, we might be able to justify the price — but it’s definitely still more than the average e-bike cost.
Bottom Line
The Trek Fetch+ 4 takes comfort to the next level, ensuring passengers enjoy the ride just as much as — if not more than — the rider. Optional accessories, like a reclining child seat, show just how much Trek prioritizes comfy riding.
Blix Dubbel
If the Fetch+ 4’s price tag is a little out of your budget, the Blix Dubbel is a great budget-friendly alternative. This utility e-bike costs only USD 2,500 — USD 1,900 on sale — and offers an ample rear cargo area for a passenger (up to 150 lbs).
The fat tires and step-through frame provide a relaxed ride, and the double batteries extend the range. More than that, though, Blix offers optional accessories like a passenger seat, foldable footpegs for riders of different heights, and a safety hoop for younger passengers. The Dubbel even has removable mesh side nets to protect passengers’ legs from the wheel and any road debris.
Most Comfortable Long-Range Electric Bike
DŌST Kope CVT
Ideal for…
- Long-distance trekking
- Camping and RVing
- Commuting
- Replacing the car
Why We Picked It
If you plan on traveling farther than the standard 30-40 miles on a single charge, you don’t just need more battery power. You need an extra comfy ride. Most long-range bikes have received high points from us for fit and feel, but the DŌST Kope CVT goes the extra mile (pun intended) regarding comfort.
Now, keep in mind that the Kope CVT is a trekking e-bike. That means it won’t provide a completely upright riding position — but you won’t be hunched over the handlebars, either. The Ergotech adjustable stem offers a happy medium, letting you modify the setup and find the most comfortable riding position.
The DŌST Air Fork provides 100 mm of travel and a hydraulic lockout for smooth riding over any terrain. Mid-sized 27.5” x 2.4” tires also boost comfort by removing the feel of any bumps on the trail or road.
As expected for a long-range e-bike, the Kope CVT includes a wide, comfy seat. But DŌST took it a step further by adding a handle in the saddle for easy lifting and carrying. Shifting is also incredibly simple and comfortable — just twist the shifter like a volume control.
Other Features to Consider
The DŌST Kope CVT offers more than an admirable 120 mi range and a cush riding experience. It’s arguably one of the best mid-priced, long-range e-bikes available, thanks to its 750 W Bafang motor, dual battery option, various class configurations, and low-maintenance carbon belt drive.
The only thing you might want to consider is the cost of repairs after the warranty expires — but that’s par for the course with most bikes.
Bottom Line
As far as long-range trekking bikes go, the DŌST Kope CVT is as comfortable as they come. The adjustable stem allows you to find the most upright riding position possible, while the suspension, large wheels, and wide seat absorb most of the bumps.
Tern GSD S10
Want a comfortable, long-range bike that isn’t meant for trekking? Try the Tern GSD S10, a utility/cargo e-bike. It offers an upright riding position and a cockpit that adjusts for a wide range of rider heights (4’11”-6’5”).
The Suntour fork allows 70 mm of travel to absorb those inevitable bumps in the road, and the wide gauge tires help smooth out uneven terrain. Tern also sells seat pads, canopies, and railings so your passenger can be as comfortable as you.
Most Comfortable Beach Cruiser Electric Bike
Kona Coco HD
Ideal for…
- Beach and boardwalk cruising
- Seniors and riders with limited mobility
- Sightseeing touring
Why We Picked It
When we think beach, we think relaxation, simplicity, and comfort — in other words, the Kona Coco HD.
Kona has years of experience in the bike industry, which is evident in Coco HD’s comfort-focused details. First, we have the gentle swoop of a mid-step frame. The top tube still offers structural support, but it sits much lower than the high-step version, so riders can easily mount and dismount.
Swept-back, clutter-free handlebars pair with the mid-step frame for a casual riding position. With the controls easily within reach, you don’t have to move your hands while riding and can rest them on the Kona-brand grips.
Even though the Coco HD doesn’t have a suspension fork, the mid-sized 27.5” wheels offer plenty of comfort for beach cruising or touring around town. With WTB Horizon Comp tires, you can enjoy silky smooth rolling on clean pavement.
If you get too caught up enjoying the beach life and run out of battery, there’s good news: The Coco HD only weighs 46 lbs. This is fairly lightweight for an e-bike, and you can comfortably ride it without depending on the motor.
Other Features to Consider
While the Kona Coco HD is undeniably a beach cruiser, it’s also built to climb. It only has a 250 W motor, but the MTB-like gear setup gives more than enough power for casual cruising on hills and boardwalks alike.
You might want to switch the tires, though. While they offer an ultra-smooth ride, there is such a thing as ‘too smooth’ — especially when you need some tread on sand-covered paths.
It’s also worth noting that removing the battery isn’t a comfortable endeavor. The bolts sit on the underside of the downtube, so they’re hard to see and access. That said, you can use the in-frame port to charge the battery without removing it.
Bottom Line
We chose the Kona Coco HD as our number one beach cruiser for a reason: It prioritizes comfort. Whether you want to cruise a flat, sandy beach or an oceanside mountain, this mid-step, lightweight bike can comfortably handle it.
Townie Go! 7D Step-Thru
Trek offers two versions of the Townie Go! 7D: a step-through and a step-over. We have to go with the step-through version for our runner-up pick because it offers a classic upright riding position.
On top of that, the bike comes with shock-absorbing elastomers, swept-back handlebars, and cushy Kraton grips. The Flat Foot Technology® adds a nice touch, optimizing riders’ pedaling for ultimate comfort. The only reason this comes in second place is that taller riders may feel a bit scrunched up and uncomfortable while riding.
Most Comfortable Step-Through Electric Bike
TENWAYS CGO800S
Ideal for…
- Commuting and running errands
- Exploring the city
- Increasing mobility
- Improving fitness
Why We Picked It
Step-through bikes are designed to be comfortable. Their open frames promote an upright riding position that reduces strain on the shoulders and back, and the absence of the top tube facilitates mounting and dismounting. In case you missed it, there are quite a lot of step-through e-bikes on this list.
But which one takes the cake for the most comfortable? Without a doubt, that would be the TENWAYS CGO800S.
Beyond the step-through frame, the TENWAYS CGO800S sports swept-back handlebars that put the rider’s hands at a more comfortable angle. They enable an upright position but still work for aggressive riding (in case you are super late to work). The faux leather grips are certainly another cushy perk, as is the wide saddle.
The 28” wheels work in sync with the SR Suntour suspension to smooth out bumpy rides, and the tires have the perfect grip for easy city riding. Such large wheels also give you a height boost to comfortably see over traffic.
Even the digital setup provides extra comfort since you can depend completely on GPS directions on the integrated display — no need to add a phone mount or fumble with your device while riding.
It’s also worth mentioning the lightweight construction. Not only does it make transporting the bike a breeze, but it also means you can comfortably ride the bike without using the motor.
Other Features to Consider
The TENWAYS CGO800S is an all-around stellar bike. With the impeccable style and sleek design, you can barely tell it’s an e-bike. We also love the maintenance-free belt drive and lightweight, quality construction that strengthen the bike’s durability. Even the price is a standout feature, coming in at an extremely reasonable USD 1,799.
The only thing you might want to consider is that this bike has a 350 W motor that probably won’t power you up San Francisco-like hills. It will help, but you’ll still need to put in a little muscle.
Bottom Line
The TENWAYS CGO800S is the definition of a comfortable commuter bike. You can’t go wrong with the swept-back handlebars and SR Suntour suspension — just don’t expect it to power you up the mountainside.
HOVSCO HOVCity 27.5″ Step-Thru
HOVSCO’s HOVCity cruiser is another comfy step-through commuter e-bike. The frame offers an upright riding position, and the front suspension allows for 75 mm of travel — in other words, a pretty plush ride.
As you might have guessed by the name, the wheels measure 27.5”, which means they are more than big enough to smoothly ride over uneven roads. The tires are also 2.2”, which doesn’t qualify as fat tires but still adds some extra comfort on bumpy streets.
Most Comfortable Electric Bike for Seniors
Rad Power RadTrike
Ideal for…
- Increased mobility and independence
- Riding into town
- Outdoor adventures with family and friends
- Light riding while RVing or camping
- Alternative to a mobility scooter
Why We Picked It
Comfort for seniors doesn’t just mean a step-through frame, an upright riding position, and a smooth rider — although those definitely play a critical part. It also means stability and easy access when handling the bike.
We considered all these points when selecting the most comfortable bike for seniors, and Rad Power’s RadTrike simply outperforms the competition in every factor.
The RadTrike is, of course, a three-wheeler rather than a two-wheeler, which offers increased riding stability. This style eliminates any concern about balancing a heavy bike and lets you enjoy the ride.
The three-wheel build also gives you something sturdy to hold on to while mounting and dismounting. Speaking of getting on the bike, this is an extremely low-step model that only requires you to lift your leg about 8”. If you want to go on a grocery or shopping run, the wide rack on the back offers easy cargo access.
Now, on to the riding experience. The RadTrike doesn’t just offer a plush saddle; it also includes a backrest for the most comfortable upright riding position with no pressure on your arms or wrists. Combine that with the three 18” x 2.25” tires, and you have a cozy and sturdy ride.
Other Features to Consider
Perhaps the biggest potential drawback is that the trike weighs a whopping 80 lbs. Carrying it anywhere is probably out of the question, although it does fold up to easily transport in a car or van — just make sure someone can help you lift it!
The good news is that the bike comes with a 750 W motor and a throttle. That’s more than enough power to move the bike and the 400+ lb payload capacity.
Bottom Line
Electric scooters and wheelchairs aren’t the only options for seniors looking for ways to continue adventuring into their golden years. The RadTrike is a comfortable alternative that increases mobility and facilitates safe exercise.
Rad Power RadCity 5 Plus
Our runner-up for the most comfortable senior e-bike is another Rad Power Bikes model: the RadCity 5 Plus. This e-bike works well for seniors who can handle and balance a traditional two-wheeler but still want the easy-to-mount, step-through frame.
Like the RadTrike, the RadCity 5 Plus provides a comfortable upright position and about 2” wide tires for a smooth ride. It’s not as stable as the trike, but the front suspension does offer 50 mm of travel for those bumpy roads.
Most Comfortable Electric Bike for Kids
RadRunner 2
Ideal for…
- Older kids (12+)
- Biking to school and gaining independence
- Adventuring with younger siblings
- Carrying books, gym bags, and other cargo
Why We Picked It
There are plenty of kids’ e-bikes on the market — and comfortable ones at that — but they often focus on cross-country and beginner mountain biking. For our most comfortable kids’ pick, we wanted something that more people can use and enjoy — something like the RadRunner 2.
This cargo e-bike has an accommodating low-step frame design and a relaxed head-tube angle for riding stability. The adjustable seatpost can ‘grow’ with your kid, and you can adjust the handlebars forward or backward for increased comfort. Ergonomic handlebar grips are another nice comfort-focused touch.
Rad Power Bikes equipped the RadRunner 2 with 3” fat tires that provide a smooth ride despite the lack of a suspension fork. The company even made the moped-style saddle 15 mm thicker than the first model, providing a plush seat for longer commutes.
With the RadRunner 2, the comfort extends to the passengers. Rad Power Bikes offers plenty of customization options, including comfy passenger seats so your teen can take their friend or sibling for a ride.
Other Features to Consider
Although the RadRunner 2 can work for pre-teens and teens, Rad Power Bikes did not design this bike for kids. It weighs 65 lbs, which might be too much for your high schooler to store or carry up and down stairs. And if the battery runs out — which, let’s be honest, might be a common occurrence with forgetful teens — that’s quite a bit of weight to pedal around.
The bike works for a wide height range, but it still caters to standard adult heights rather than kids’. If your young one hasn’t hit their growth spurt yet and measures less than 5’4” (or has an inseam less than 26.75”), the RadRunner 2 will be too big.
Finally, keep in mind that the RadRunner 2 is a Class 3 e-bike. That means it can reach up to 28 mph, as opposed to the 20 mph max speed on other e-bike classes. Not only is that significantly faster, but some states restrict Class 3 e-bike use.
Bottom Line
The RadRunner 2 has just about everything a growing teen needs to be comfortable while riding a commuter/cargo bike: plush saddle, adjustable seatpost, fat tires, and optional passenger seat cushions. Just check that your kid fits the bike and can handle its weight.
Razor Rambler 20
Technically, this is another adult bike, but the low, non-adjustable seat works best for people under 5’8” (in other words, older kids). The super-thick 4” wheels and cushy, bench-style saddle make bumpy rides a thing of the past. However, make sure your kids don’t get too comfortable and ride all day since the Rambler 20 only offers 16 miles of range.
What about a comfy e-bike for younger children? We’ve got you covered with a second runner-up: the Hiboy BK1. Ideal for kids aged 2-6, this balance bike includes an adjustable cushion, anti-slip handles and footrests, and thick tires for smooth riding on grass or pavement.
Most Comfortable Electric Bike for Hunting
Apex Pro
Ideal for…
- Deepwoods hunting
- Camping, bikepacking, and fishing trips
- Overlanding in rough backwood terrain
Why We Picked It
Hiking e-bikes should be big, sturdy machines that can conquer all types of backcountry trails and easily carry a high payload. Many brands might place comfort below priorities like power and range — but not QuietKat. Its Apex Pro model offers a comfortable ride without sacrificing durability and motor capabilities.
Our favorite comfort-focused feature has to be the front suspension that provides 150 mm of travel. If you need more cushion, QuietKat offers an optional suspension seatpost and lush saddle.
The wheels measure a standard 26”, which isn’t too impressive alone. However, with the fat 4.5” tires, you have an ideal combination that glides over roots, rocks, and potholes.
Note that the frame sits the rider in an upright trekking position. While not as comfortable as a step-through frame, it’s par for the course with an overlanding bike.
Other Features to Consider
Put simply, the QuietKat Apex Pro is not a lightweight model. The 1,000 W motor, 10 lb battery, and durable materials tip the scale up to 70 lbs, which can make transportation tricky. If you ask us, though, the extra weight is worth it.
Not only does the 1,000 W motor power the bike up to 28 mph, but it makes almost no sound. QuietKat really lives up to its name with the near-silent motors made for hunting.
The range leaves a bit to be desired, clocking only 25-52 mi. That seems a bit short, especially for multi-day hunting and camping trips. The good news is that QuietKat sells various accessories, like a portable e-bike solar charging station that replenishes the battery while in the backwoods.
Bottom Line
QuietKat knows how to make high-quality hunting bikes that don’t skimp on either power or comfort. The Apex Pro is a prime example, complete with a 1,000 W motor, dual suspension, and fat tires — everything you need for a successful and comfy hunting trip.
QuietKat Pioneer 7.5
As you might have noticed, QuietKat is the go-to brand for hunting e-bikes. Its Pioneer 7.5 model resembles the Apex Pro in many ways, particularly with the frame build and forward trekking position.
The Pioneer 7.5 stands out with its slightly more manageable 61 lb frame, but the lack of suspension ultimately pushed this bike down to second place. The tires are also half an inch thinner — not a huge difference, but it may affect the ability to smooth out rough terrain.
Most Comfortable 1,000 W Electric Bike
Apex Pro
Ideal for…
- Hunting and fishing trips
- Camping adventures
- Overlanding and backwoods adventures
Why We Picked It
So you want a powerhouse of a bike that’s also a bit plush? Well, the Bakcou Storm can make your dreams a reality.
As an overlanding bike, it includes a step-over frame that allows for a more aggressive riding position. That’s not the most comfortable setup, but it’s necessary for the type of bike. Chances are, though, you won’t even notice because the dual suspension system glides the bike over rough terrain.
The front air suspension fork provides an impressive 120 mm of travel, complemented by the RockShox Monarch rear shock. While the 26” wheels might be on the small end for an all-terrain bike, the fat 4” tires make up for it and comfortably handle rocks and roots.
While Bakcou doesn’t specify exact height ranges, it does offer two sizes to accommodate most riders. The medium frame measures 17” and the large measures 19”.
Other Features to Consider
With a 1,000 W motor and 160 Nm of torque, the Bakcou Storm is an absolute beast. It can reach up to 35 mph in the unlimited mode, which makes this an out-of-class bike. However, if you must comply with local regulations, you can toggle it down to just 750 W and a 20 mph max.
The range is also quite impressive, reaching up to 82 mi on a single charge. Backou even offers four battery options, ranging from 840-1,200 Wh, so you can pick one that best meets your needs. Just keep in mind that a bigger battery also costs more.
As a massively powerful bike, the Backou Storm weighs much more than the average e-bike. The 82 lbs can make transportation and riding without the motor difficult, to say the least.
We also need to mention the importance of regular drive system maintenance. Overall, the bike has a sturdy, durable build, but the chain will likely need regular attention.
Bottom Line
Bakcou proves that you can really have it all. Its Storm model offers the best of both worlds: incredible power and a lush riding experience.
QuietKat Lynx
The QuietKat Lynx is like the urban motorcycle-esque version of the Bakcou Storm. It’s definitely a comfortable out-of-class bike with dual suspension, 4” fat tires, and a plush seat.
However, a few minor quibbles knocked the Lynx down to second place. First, the bike is even heavier than the Bakcou Storm at 100 lbs. The frame also feels a bit too small for tall riders yet a bit too big for short riders.
Factors That Affect Comfort
What, exactly, is a comfortable e-bike? Unfortunately, there’s no cut-and-dry answer since comfort depends on the rider’s preferences and riding style. That said, we’ve identified several components that objectively affect comfort.
Each of the following factors played a role in our ranking decisions — and they can act as a guide to help you in your search for the most comfortable e-bike.
Frame
Since the frame affects the riding position, it’s a critical comfort consideration. Generally, three frame types exist: step-through (or low-step), mid-step, and step-over. Step-through frames without a top tube offer the most comfort because they enable an upright riding position that alleviates pain and stress from hunching over the handlebars.
However, step-through frames limit aggressive riding capability, so they typically don’t appear on all-terrain and mountain bikes.
Mounting and Dismounting
Comfort considerations often focus on the riding experience, but you have to be able to get on the bike first. Step-over frames require riders to swing their leg over the bike, which might be too difficult or uncomfortable for some people.
Step-through frames again offer the most comfortable mounting and dismounting process, allowing riders to simply slide their side through the frame.
Size
One-size-fits-all is rare in the e-bike world (although we do have a model in our list above with a universal size option). Large and extra-large frames will probably feel quite uncomfortable for small riders and vice versa.
Step-over frames include a more stringent rider height range because the top tube only fits certain inseams. Step-through frames generally accommodate a wider height range, especially if they include adjustable seats and handlebars.
Saddle
Speaking of seats, they undoubtedly affect comfort. Beyond an adjustable seatpost, you should consider the saddle material and width. A plusher seat can make a world of difference on long commutes or hunting trips, but the width is arguably even more important.
If the seat is too narrow, it can cause quite a bit of pain. However, a seat that’s too wide can be just as uncomfortable and start to cut off circulation or cause chafing. You can’t really tell what a saddle will feel like from an online picture, so consider trying the bike out in person and even switching out the seat for something that better fits your anatomy.
Handlebars
Handlebar height, width, and shape affect your arm and upper-body position. For example, a tall, swept-back handlebar encourages a comfortable, upright riding posture. You might also consider control accessibility since an ill-placed throttle or PAS control can make adjustments uncomfortable.
Wheels
In short, the bigger the wheel, the smoother the ride feels. Mid-sized and large wheels (typically 27.5” and 29”) offer the most comfort because they can better absorb vibrations from rough terrain.
Tires
Like large wheels, wide tires help provide a smooth ride. Anything above 2” boosts comfort, but fit tires measuring between 3” and 5” offer extra cushion.
Suspension
The wheels and tires aren’t the only things that smooth out streets filled with potholes and rocky terrain. Suspension also helps, especially a dual system with a front suspension fork and rear shock. The higher the travel, the more the bike moves to absorb the vibrations from the road or path.
Transportability
Before you ride an e-bike, you need to get it somewhere — whether down apartment steps, on and off a bike rack, or even on the subway. A heavy e-bike can make transportation extremely uncomfortable, especially for small-stature riders. The weight also determines whether you can comfortably ride the bike without the motor (in case the battery runs out of charge).
Tips for a More Comfortable E-Bike
The factory presets don’t work for everyone. If you already have an e-bike that’s a tad uncomfortable — or are nervous about getting one that might not be as plush as it seems — don’t stress. You can adjust and customize the bike to meet your needs.
Here are a few tips to maximize comfort:
- Switch out the Seat: Many e-bikes come with a saddle that’s just okay. Don’t be afraid to replace it with one that better fits your body. Looking at the big picture, seat replacements are a relatively minor and affordable adjustment.
- Adjust the Handlebar: The handlebar width, angle, and stem height affect your riding position and, therefore, your comfort. A poorly aligned handlebar can cause wrist, arm, and shoulder pain. Brush up on a few handlebar adjustment tips for maximum comfort.
- Adjust the Suspension: Adjust shocks to your weight for optimal comfort and response to minimize bumps and jolts while riding.
- Try out Bikes: E-bike companies offer tons of specifications and size charts for online shoppers, but nothing really beats first-hand riding experience. Find a nearby vendor and take a few models for a spin to see what’s comfortable for you.
- Accessorize for Extra Comfort: Padded grips, cushy saddle covers, and passenger seats can add an extra layer of luxury to your ride.
Comfortable E-Bike FAQs
Q: What makes an e-bike comfortable?
Comfort is subjective, depending largely on both the rider’s body type and riding style. Nevertheless, a few main factors that affect e-bike comfort include the saddle, frame, suspension, and tires.
Q: Can I make my current e-bike more comfortable?
Absolutely! You can upgrade the saddle to one with a more ergonomic fit or added padding. Adjusting the handlebars and saddle position can also help improve your posture, while cushioned grips alleviate stress on the hands and wrists. You can also try investing in a suspension seatpost and larger tires to make the ride smoother.
Q: Are step-through e-bikes more comfortable?
By design, step-through frames provide a more comfortable upright position that alleviates stress on the back and shoulders. The absence of the top frame tube also simplifies mounting and dismounting for people who don’t want to — or can’t — swing their legs over the bike. While many consider step-through bikes a more comfortable option, they work better for leisure riders, not off-roaders.
